It is more than 25 years since Carolyn Sears opened the first nail salon in London - in the basement of a designer boutique in London’s fashionable Sloane Street. Carolyn’s background in fashion and show business had involved her in a lot of travelling and during her regular visits to the USA she had watched the emergence of the nail industry there. She was convinced that it would not be long before British women would be looking for professional nail care and nail extensions - particularly women whose hands are on show.
She was to be proved right! She found a company called SuperNail of Los Angeles, became their exclusive distributor in the UK and opened her first salon in 1979. Business women, models, society hostesses and show business stars soon sought out this specialist nail salon and a great many remained clients for years. A visit to the salon was a social occasion as well as an opportunity to relax and be pampered. English actresses like Felicity Kendall, Twiggy, Lesley Joseph, Barbara Windsor and Joan Collins were regulars at Crawford Street. Other clients to the salon included Des’ree, Gaby Roslin, Faye Dunaway, Diana Ross, Julie Andrews, Lisa Minelli, Tina Turner, Gwen Stefani etc. The name Super Nail of L.A. remained over the door but the business was developed dramatically since those early days.
The nail salon moved to larger premises in Crawford Street, Marylebone - in the centre of London’s West End - in 1981 where Carolyn introduced new products and services to her discerning clientele. They moved the Head Office to a purpose built warehouse/office in West London and it is from there they exclusively distribute a wide range of nail care and skin treatment products from companies, Backscratchers, and Art of Beauty.
